The 2012 UK BookCrossing Unconvention will be held in Colchester on the weekend of 28th – 30th September.

This year the event will take place across two very different venues, each with it’s own unique features to make for a very interesting Uncon weekend.

Headgate Theatre Exterior

Headgate Theatre

The Headgate Theatre is located at 14 Chapel Street North, Colchester, Essex, CO2 7AT and is the home of amateur theatre in Colchester.

We will have exclusive use of the Headgate theatre auditorium and bar from morning until 6pm on Saturday and this will be the main venue for author talks and other presentations on the biggest day of the weekend.

The theatre has full disabled access and plenty of space for wheelchairs within the auditorium.

Slack Space

Just 352 yards away from the Headgate Theatre is our other home for the weekend, Slack Space. Slack Space are an organisation who make use of dead space to hold community events and art exhibitions, currently occupying a building located at Victoria Place (Off Eld Lane), Colchester, CO1 1LR. Slack Space does move around from time to time, although having only moved recently we anticipate that this will be the location of Slack Space during the Uncon weekend. If by chance the venue should move between now and then, we will of course let people know and the new location would always remain somewhere in Colchester town centre and within easy access of the Headgate Theatre.

Slack Space has disabled access – there is a small step into the building and an access ramp available if required. Although disabled toilets are not available on site, there is access to nearby (and apparently excellent) disabled toilet facilities.
