Red Phone Box Library

At around 2pm on Sunday afternoon of the Unconvention weekend we are offering attendees an optional visit to the red phone box ‘library’ in the nearby village of Little Bentley. When the village phone box was decommissioned, the council purchased it for just £1 and a decision was taken to convert it into a noticeboard, quickly followed by the addition of several book swapping shelves.

You can read the whole story of the Little Bentley red phone box in this story in the East Anglian Daily Times, with more information on this blog. Click here to see the BookCrossing books that have been released on the phone box’s shelves to date.

Local BookCrossers will lead the visit with car space available for anyone who needs it – if you aren’t already tempted then you may want to know that the trip to the phone box will include a spin around Colchester’s very own Magic Roundabout!

In order for us to keep track of numbers (and also to ensure that everyone who wants one has a lift) please ‘purchase’ this item in the Unconvention shop in advance of the Unconvention weekend. If you do not check this item out in advance we cannot guarantee that you will be able to join the trip, particularly if you have not got access to your own transport.

If you do require a lift then we will ask for a small donation on the day to cover the costs of fuel for those driving. However this is likely to be a nominal amount only so it shouldn’t break the bank. Alternatively, if you know the local area and would like to offer your services as a driver for the trip, please use the Contact Us form to get in touch with the Uncon committee and let us know how many additional BookCrossers you could accommodate in your car.
